Just a few years ago, we were able to use a domestic water recirculation pump with a timer which stopped flow in the recirc line; that is not the case today. The need for paying attention to water quality in the built environment has never been greater. Starting January 1, 2022, the Joint Commission is now requiring all healthcare facilities to have a water management plan to reduce hospital acquired infections resulting from the water system, essentially requiring compliance to ASHRAE 188. For those that are unaware, the Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit group in the United States that administers voluntary accreditation programs for hospitals and other healthcare organizations.
