Pressure Booster Systems
Exact water pressure may be critical
R. L. Deppmann Company works with building owners, contractors, and engineers to provide pressure boosting solutions that meet your capacity, control, communication, space, and budget requirements.
We've categorized product choices below based on the specific need and complexity of the application. These categories - Point of Use, Good, Better, and Best - are not statements about the quality of the products, but rather designations intended to help you identify the right product for your specific application.
Point of Use Pressure Boosting Applications
When you need to get more flow or pressure for a specific application, point of use pressure boosters are ideal.
Does your Medical Office Building (MOB) Autoclave have enough pressure during some hours of the day, but not during others? Would your hospital cart washer work faster if it just had 15 PSIG more? Do the penthouse occupants in your building need more water in their deluge shower?

"Good" Pressure Boosters
Bell & Gossett Model "MiniBoost Extreme" Pressure Booster Package
When your project requires a domestic water pressure booster with lower flow rates and just a little more pressure increase, the Bell & Gossett MiniBoost Extreme, may be your package of choice.
Larger than a Point of Use pressure booster, this cost-effective system is perfect for smaller two- or three-story commercial structures, healthcare medical offices, and apartment buildings. This low profile packaged system uses stainless steel pumps and a Xylem-designed controller for reasonably steady delivery pressure at an attractive price. Exclusive Multi-Master Control feature allows duplex units to continue operation if one pump or its control fails.
The system-mounted transducer will adjust the speed to provide a constant pressure as the load varies and the suction pressure changes. Reducing the speed will reduce the energy used and the electrical operating costs.
Cost Range
Features/Highlights
- Simplex or duplex
- Variable speed energy savings
- Stainless steel grooved manifold for ease of installation
- Multi-Master Control allows duplex units to continue operation if one pump or its control fails
- Quadratic pressure control (in lieu of linear) promotes more efficient operation closer to system resistance
- Dual pressure sensors for better pressure control
- BMS communications offer Modbus or BacNet options
Capacity Ranges
Optional Accessories
- Low suction pressure cutout switch. We may supply this optional switch and ship it loose for installation and wiring by others.
- Bell & Gossett No Flow Shutdown Tank. We recommend this tank for steady pressure operation at low or no flow rate.
- Miljoco Suction Pressure Gauge PLF2598L-PBF-05
- Metraflex flexible pipe connectors (BBSC-1-1/2”, 2”, 3”). Duplex units match the pipe size of the booster system. Simplex units use 1-1/2” to 50 GPM, 2” to 90 GPM, and 3” above 90 GPM.

Design Tools
Now that you’ve identified whether you need Point of Use, Premium, Best, Better, or Good solution to fit your client’s needs, let's talk about the design and engineering of the system.
Deppmann pressure booster design tools can help you determine the capacities you need for your specific system.
Features/Highlights
- Do you know what pressure your system requires? This R.L. Deppmann handy tool will guide you through the steps to determine the scheduled suction, discharge, and differential pressures which the B&G pressure Booster will need to provide.
Additional Features/Highlights
- The no flow shutdown tank is used to avoid cycling of the pressure booster, to maintain the minimum flow required for trouble free and long life of the operating pump, and to save energy. Do you know the capacities and B&G model number for the no flow shutdown tank you require? This tool will help you figure out exactly what you need.
- Do you know how many pumps you should select to do the job? Do you know what the design flow rates are for those pumps? (Do you need 100%/100% or 50%/50% or something else?) This program helps guide you through the decision making process.
Pressure Boosters "Parts & Service"
R. L. Deppmann Service Techs have to expertise to troubleshoot and repair our most complex pressure boosters down to the simple point of use products.
Have you had a Pressure Booster “Tune-up” in the last three years?
Pressure Boosters, like many most other pieces of equipment, require periodic maintenance. We recommend a troubleshooting service visit to adjust the parameters to match current needs and well as a review of any service trips or error messages. We check the operation of the sensors, controls, pumps, motors, and valves. If your system is an older constant speed system we can clean and repair the PRV/check valves and even offer an analysis of energy savings to convert to variable speed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my system need maintenance?
- There is a list of maintenance requirements which varies depending on the model you have. The pumps in general do not need much attention. The older constant speed pressure boosters do have pressure regulating valves that should be cleaned and reset every 3-4 years.
Are parts available for my system?
- Most parts are available for the pumps, valves, and sensors. Some of the electronic parts in older Technologic 1000, 2000, and 5500 series are no longer available due to upgrades in microprocessors. We can offer upgrades.
How much money will I save if I upgrade to the newer variable speed technology instead of my constant speed unit?
- The actual savings depends on the size of your system and the varying suction pressure from the city in your area. Our sales engineering department can do a free analysis and give you an idea. Here is an example of energy savings.
Example of savings converting to variable speed.
Assume you have a larger 10 story apartment building with (2) 20 HP 3500 RPM constant speed pumps on your Domestic water pressure booster. Assume you pay 14 cents per KWH and the system was designed on the 1980s normal minimum suction pressure default of 30 PSIG. If the city pressure is normally 50 PSIG, how much can you save with a R. L. Deppmann variable speed conversion kit?
- Before = $7,700.00 operating cost per year
- After = $3,800.00 operating cost per year
- SAVINGS EXAMPLE: $3,900.00 PER YEAR
