Tip of the Month:

Question: Why does the coupler on my in-line pump keep breaking?

Answer: Most couplers fail due to shaft misalignments. B&G couplers are meant to break if the alignment is off. This protects the more expensive bearing assembly and motor from damage. The shaft misalignment may be a result of “sagging” motor mounts. Whenever you need a coupler change make sure you check both the inboard and outboard motor mount. They should be perfectly centered on the motor with no sagging. See the pictures to the left. Motor mounts will sag due to age, over oiling of the motor bearings and high ambient temperatures. Motor mounts are easily replaced using B&G’s installation instructions. Motor mounts and couplers are available from any of the stocking wholesalers listed in our parts finder section of the website. Hope this answers your question. Feel free to contact our customer service department if you need more information.
