Battery Back-Up Sump Pumps

| Printer Friendly (PDF) The heavy spring rains have begun to fall and sump pumps everywhere are working overtime. Inevitably power outages are going to occur and sump pumps will stop working. Even in commercial projects there are potential power outages. This will be followed by flooded mechanical rooms, basements, etc. How can this be avoided? Bell & Gossett has the answer, the BBSP and BBSP2 Battery Back-Up Sump Pumps. These are back-up pumps that are easily installed, just above the primary sump pump and connected to the primary sump pump discharge line. The pumps are powered by a Deep Cycle Marine Battery, are capable of running for up to 11 hours off of the battery and have the ability to pump from 8 GPM to 37 GPM, depending on the required lift. The packaged unit includes the 12 volt pump, float switch, 10 amp battery charger, check valve, 1½”pipe fittings and battery box. The battery is not included with the system. These units are not intended to be used as a substitute for the primary sump pump, but as the “pinch hitter”, that goes to bat when the primary pump is out of service. The pumps are constructed of glass filled engineered thermoplastic and cannot be used to pump flammable liquids or chemicals. The battery charger needs to be kept dry and protected. An added benefit is that the pump will provide additional capacity in case the primary pump is unable to keep up with the effluent entering the sump. There is an audible alarm on the charger that will sound about 4 seconds after the float switch activates the pump.
